Independent optician and hearing care specialist Duncan and Todd Group has added Thurso-based optician G A Henderson Optometrist to its Scotland-wide portfolio.

G A Henderson Optometrist was established in Thurso in 1984.

Director Graham Henderson is to retire but will continue to work with Duncan and Todd as an optometrist over the next few months while a new optometrist is recruited.

Some members of the original team have transferred to Duncan and Todd Group, which also has a long-established branch on Thurso Street, Wick.

The optician will remain on Sir George's Street but will now trade as Duncan and Todd Opticians.

The latest acquisition retains Duncan and Todd’s position as the largest privately-owned optician and hearing care provider in Scotland.

Duncan and Todd Group managing director Frances Rus said: “We are pleased to have added G A Henderson Optometrist to our family of opticians. We have had a branch in Caithness for more than a decade and are delighted to add our second.

“As a fellow long-established independent optometrist which is committed to providing a high quality and personal service to its local communities, we felt this was a natural fit for us.”

Graham Henderson said: “We have worked hard over the years to provide a quality, personal service so we looked for a company with a similar ethos that would offer the same level of service, and we found this in Duncan & Todd.

“We are delighted that our current staff is transferring to Duncan & Todd, so the same familiar faces will be there to ensure the very best of care for our patients. The time has come for us to retire, and we would like to thank them for their loyalty and support over the years.”

Duncan and Todd trade as 20 20 Opticians south of Tayside and as Duncan and Todd in the north, as well as retaining names that are well known locally, such as JM MacDonald in the Highlands.

The group has invested in hearing care and now offers this service across Scotland, with free hearing tests and supply, fitting, and tuning of a comprehensive range of hearing aids, including digital aids.
