What Is Blepharitis:

Blepharitis is a common inflammation of the eyelids. It is often a persistent condition with no 'one-off' cure. Many people with blepharitis also develop dry eye syndrome, which can cause eyes to feel dry, gritty and sore. Symptoms include:

  • Red and inflamed eyelids
  • Crusting around the eyelashes
  • Eyelids sticking together (especially in the morning)
  • More prone to styes
  • Gritty and sore eyes (less tears produced than normal)

Causes of Blepharitis:

There is no one reason, it just happens. It is not due to anything you have done or not done, although rubbing your eyelids will make the inflammation worse.

Help and Advice:

While it can not be completely cured, a daily eyelid cleaning routine that involves applying a warm compress, massaging your eyelids and wiping any crust.
