Achievements, Commitments and Objectives

Sustainability in Action

  • In 2023, we moved into a purpose-built facility designed with sustainability in mind.  A new micro-separator system reduced water usage in lens production by 50%.  Dry cut technology means only 2% of glazing production now requires water-driven edging.
  • Our head office and manufacturing site operate with a zero-landfill waste management partner. 67% of waste is recycled, with the remaining 33% converted into energy through refuse-derived fuels.
  • In 2025, 10% of our designer frames came from recycled or supplier-verified sustainable sources.
  • Recycling points for frames, hearing devices and contact lenses are now available in all 42 stores and across many external lens customer locations throughout the UK.
  • All electricity used across our stores, head office and manufacturing operations is  now certified renewable.
  • During FY26, we reduced poster print production by approximately 49%.
  • This reduction is estimated to save:
    • Up to 2.5 tonnes of paper annually
    • Around 2.8 tonnes of CO₂ emissions
    • More than 375,000 litres of water each year
  • ESG Committee was formed in 2025 with defined priorities and targets set.

Our Objectives for 2025/26

  • Review all social policies and implement actions to address any identified gaps.
  • Increase sustainable or recycled designer frames stocked to 25%.
  • Launch our first Duncan and Todd branded sustainable frame collection.

Long-Term Commitment

  • Achieve Net Zero emissions across the Group by 2045.

Environmental Stewardship.

We pledge to continuously assess and reduce our environmental footprint.

Energy Efficiency

We will strive to reduce energy consumption in our stores and facilities through efficient lighting, heating, and cooling systems, as well as the use of renewable energy sources where feasible.

Waste Reduction

We are committed to minimising waste generation by promoting recycling, responsible packaging choices, and encouraging our customers to return and recycle their eyewear, contact lens packaging and hearing devices.

Community Engagement.

We will actively engage with our local communities to promote positive change.

Access to Care

We will strive to make eye and hearing care more accessible to our communities through initiatives such as free screenings and partnerships with charitable organisations.

Education and Awareness

We are committed to raising awareness about the importance of regular eye and ear health checks, as well as educating our customers about sustainable products and recycling.

Local Support

We will support local businesses, whenever possible, to contribute to the economic well-being of the communities in which we operate.

Ethical Business Practices.

We will uphold the highest ethical standards in all our operations.

Supply Chain Responsibility

We are dedicated to working with suppliers to stock products that are ethically sourced and produced, ensuring they align with human rights standards and environmental regulations.

Transparency

We will communicate openly about our sustainability initiatives, progress, and challenges, inviting feedback from our customers, employees, and stakeholders.

Because we care.
